The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) recommend 44 hours of professional lessons to pass a driving test, everyone learns at their own pace so this is only an average figure.
Your lessons can be one, one and a half or two hours long depending on your availability and your driving instructors.
Automatic vehicles are easier to learn in and if you have a disability or limited mobility they will probably be the best choice for you. However if you pass your driving test in an automatic vehicle your licence will only allow you to drive an automatic, if you pass your driving test in a manual vehicle you are legally allowed to drive manual and automatic.
No you can start your driving lessons before passing your theory test, all of our pupils have free access to the app "Theory Test Pro" to help you practice for the theory exam.
You can pay cash on the day with your driving instructor or pre-pay on our website 24 hours before your lesson and save money.

We only have fully qualified driving instructors who are patient & friendly
“My instructor was Roger Fleming and I could not ask for a more patient, kind and knowledgeable instructor. I went with Roger after being with a another instructor previously and the difference between the two was night and day. I started off as a nervous driver and Roger was extremely patient and spent as many lessons as it took to get my confidence up before we moved onto the next thing. The client led elements of his lessons allowed me to feel entirely in control of what I was learning and when. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 I had to stop and restart lessons in line with the government guidelines, however, the expertise and patience of Roger allowed me to get back to a high standard of driving in no time. I would highly recommend Roger Fleming to anyone looking to learn to drive. I thank him for all the time and effort put into me to get me to pass my driving test with only 2 minors.”
“Really recommend teacher Nadeem. I passed at my second time at this school. Much better than the first school I tried.”
“Amazing driving school, my instructor Adiel was helpful and gave me the confidence I needed to pass.”
“Adiel Khan taught me the skills needed, not only to pass my test, but also to be a confident, competent and above all, safe driver wherever I go, even in unfamiliar areas. I would 100% recommend Adiel to any new drivers. Thank you to Adiel and to 1st Driving School for the experience.”
